Following the publication of the January 26, 2026 Order by the Ministry of Environment, Housing and Territorial Planning, which introduces new support measures for forest protection, FAFCYLE as representative of the Living Lab South, has taken an active role in informing and engaging private landowners in the area.
The aid scheme, co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) under Spain’s Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan (2023–2027), aims to prevent forest damage caused by wildfires, natural disasters, and other catastrophes. It supports both the development of five-year prevention and silviculture plans and the implementation of the measures they contain.
In response, FAFCYLE, together with technical staff from the Forestry Associations of Segovia and Valladolid, organized information sessions in Vallelado (Segovia) and San Miguel del Arroyo (Valladolid). These meetings brought together private forest owners to raise awareness of the funding opportunities and encourage participation in the scheme.
During the sessions, FAFCYLE experts presented the key challenges posed by forest fires and outlined practical prevention measures accessible to small landowners. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of silvicultural treatments and forest infrastructure in increasing forest resilience.
The organisation also provided detailed guidance on the grant programme, including its objectives, eligibility criteria, and application process. Participants were introduced to the requirements for developing five-year prevention plans, as well as the obligations and commitments associated with receiving support. The sessions concluded with open discussions, allowing landowners to raise questions and clarify specific concerns.
Beyond environmental protection, FAFCYLE highlighted the broader benefits of the programme. By supporting sustainable forest management, the initiative not only contributes to climate change mitigation and biodiversity conservation, but also stimulates local economies through timber mobilisation and job creation in forestry services.
Through these outreach activities, FAFCYLE is reinforcing its role as a key intermediary between public policy and forest owners, helping to ensure that available funding translates into concrete action on the ground.
