On 6 November 2026, WaldBeiderBasel and the Forstkammer Baden-Württemberg invite private forest owners and forestry professionals to Wehr, Germany, for a presentation and discussion of the first forest development simulations produced within the Small4Good research project. The event will focus on the silvicultural opportunities and challenges facing small and very small private forests.
Two researchers from WSL (Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research), Clemens Blattert and Justus Nögel, will present growth projections they developed within the project for regional forest areas taking part in Small4Good. Local forestry professionals will add a practical silvicultural perspective. A mixed Norway spruce and silver fir stand in Wehr will serve as the example site.
The afternoon begins with a short visit to the forest stand, followed by an introduction to the simulations. Participants will then look at the results together and discuss what they mean in practice: Which decisions for our forests can be drawn from them? Which tree species and management approaches can deliver which forest ecosystem services? And how do current management concepts fit into such projections?
The event continues the cross-border exchange between forest owners in Germany and Switzerland that Living Lab Central has been building throughout the project, linking new digital tools with the everyday experience of the people who manage the forest.
The event will be held in German. Registration has now closed, and a report on the event will be published soon.
