PALENCIA, SPAIN – Earlier this month our consortium got together in Palencia Spain for our second consortium meeting. Over the course of the two and a half days, members of the project were able to visit our living lab (LL) south to meet and learn about local small-scale forestry from the forest owners themselves, catch-up on project progress, and finally to engage in synergies with our sister project SMURF.
First, we visited the site of our living lab South, where local small-scale forest owners provided valuable insights into their multifunctional management practices and elaborated on best practices, barriers, and motivations. It was also an ample opportunity for local forest owners to engage with forest-owner representatives from other countries that are part of our consortium. This very much fostered a space to share key takeaways, where hopefully, local forest owners can be inspired to take the best practices from other countries and integrate them. The day finished with visits to two wood-product factories, allowing us to see various aspects of the local forestry value chain.
During our second day, the consortium shared updates on project progress, highlighting the work that has been done over the past 10 months since our kick-off meeting in Ås, Norway, this January. Partners from Spain, Germany, Norway, Romania, and European representatives based in Brussels presented their work. This ensured that all partners were aligned with the project vision as a whole and actively engaging in their respective tasks, showcasing project results and identifying potential exploitation opportunities.
On our third day, we engaged in a co-creation session with our sister project SMURF where both projects were presented, and future synergy-pathways were brought to our attention. It was an exciting session, and both consortiums are keen to collaborate on research outputs, communication and dissemination activities, as well as foster collective exploitation pathways.
